Remastered versions of both the beloved Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 have been leaked at San Diego Comic-Con, just ahead of Soul Reaver’s 25th anniversary.

The leak comes from a Dark Horse Comics booth where an eagle-eyed ResetEra user spotted The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered branding on a pair of statues that will be released in August, which is when the Soul Reaver’s 25th anniversary will occur. Dark Horse are also going to publish a comic book titled Soul Reaver: The Dead Shall Rise in August.

Remastered versions of these classic games from the 90s have been rumoured before. Most notably, in 2023 there were reports that Crystal Dynamics was hosting a playtest for a new entry in the series. This stemmed from a 2022 survey in which Crystal Dynamics asked a variety of questions such as what people’s favourite Legacy of Kain game was and even whether you would prefer a remake, remaster, reboot or proper sequel. Then, quite a few of the people who filled out the survey were asked to attend a mystery playtest, causing fans to speculate that Crystal Dynamics were looking for feedback on some sort of Legacy of Kain project.

Going back to this new leak, it’s really hard to imagine how this could be anything but a remastering of the Soul Reaver games. The branding seems very clear.

Interestingly, the naming would seem to suggest that the package would skip the first game, Blood Omen: The Legacy of Kain, in favour of the Soul Reaver games. That’s probably because Soul Reaver sold considerably more than its predecessor and is generally the more well known of the two, but it will still be a shame to skip it.

With the 25th anniversary of Soul Reaver fast approaching (August 16) it would seem to be the perfect time for Raziel to return.
