As previously announced, Xbox games now can be streamed via Amazon’s own Fire Sticks, letting people play all of the latest Xbox games without the need for a console!
Technically, you could already do this by using a web browser on your Amazon Fire Stick, but now the whole thing will work natively through a downloadable app.
If you fancy trying out some gaming without needing a console under your TV, here’s everything you’ll need in order to play the latest, greatest Xbox titles on an Amazon Fire Stick!
1. Amazon Fire TV Stick
The first and and most obvious requirement is an Amazon Fire TV Stick. This streaming device is essential for accessing the gaming platform and enjoying your favorite Xbox games on the big screen. Specifically, you need one of two versions: either the Fire Stick 4K, or the Fire Stick 4K Max. Sadly, older models won’t work, nor will the Fire Stick Lite.
Once you’ve got the Fire Stick, simply plug it into an available HDMI port on your TV and voila! You can now connect it to your Wi-Fi and start streaming heaps of shows and movies from Netflix, Amazon, Disney and more! You can also use to to stream games via Amazon’s own Luna service, which is included in your Amazon Prime subscription which you can grab here with a free 30 day trial!

The upgraded Fire Stick offers everything that the base model does, plus improved Wi-Fi for smoother streaming and 16GB of storage for more apps!
2. The Xbox TV App
Now that you have a Fire Stick you’re almost ready to go! But the required app may not be installed on the Fire Stick, so to solve that you can follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Home Screen: Turn on your Amazon Fire Stick and from the main menu, scroll to the top and select the “Search” tab.
- Search for Xbox TV App: Use the on-screen keyboard to search for “Xbox” using the search bar. As you type, you should see the suggested results, and the Xbox app should be one of them.
- Select the Xbox TV App: Once you locate the Xbox TV app in the search results, click on it to open the app’s page.
- Download and Install: On the app’s page, you will have the option to download and install the Xbox TV app to your Amazon Fire Stick. Click on “Get” or “Download” to start the installation process.
- Open the App: After the installation is complete, you can open the Xbox TV app from your Fire Stick’s home screen, or directly from the app’s page.
- Sign In or Create Account: Upon opening the Xbox TV app, you will need to sign in with your Xbox account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one directly within the app.
- Enjoy Xbox Games: Once you’re signed in, you can start exploring and playing a wide range of Xbox games directly on your Amazon Fire Stick using the Xbox TV app.
3. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription
To play Xbox games on your Amazon Fire TV Stick, you will need to have an active subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which costs £12.99. However, new members can sign up for just £1 for the first month, and you can frequently find various deals around the Internet.
That £12.99 grants access to a vast catalogue of games that can be played on your Fire Stick 4K, but you can also play them on your phone or PC as well. And, of course, if you have an Xbox console you can play them there.
Game Pass Ultimate – £12.99 on Amazon!/ $49.99 3-months Amazon US
Get access to thousands of games, including all the new first-party titles from Microsoft! Starfield, Hellblade 2, Forza Horizon 5, Diablo 3 and more can all be streamed straight to your Fire Stick!
4. Compatible Controller
In order to control and navigate through the Xbox games on your Fire TV Stick, you will need a compatible Bluetooth controller.
The safest bet is going to be an official Xbox controller which you can snag in a variety of colours. I’m partial to the Pulse Red version you can see below.
But there are plenty of other good options, including Amazon’s own Luna controller. If you’re willing to go cheaper there are quite a few controller’s on the market – just be sure to double check that it’s compatible!
Xbox Controller – £39.99/$49
Super comfy, well-built and completely compatible with streaming games.
Luna Wireless – £38.99/ $69.99 $39.99
Amazon’s very own Luna controller is designed to work with the company’s own Luna streaming service.
5. Strong Internet Connection
A stable and strong internet connection is crucial for streaming and playing Xbox games on your Amazon Fire TV Stick. Make sure your internet connection is capable of handling the demands of online gaming to avoid lags and interruptions.
A 20 Mbps internet connection over 5GHz Wi-Fi is recommended by Amazon and Xbox for the best experience possible. Keep in mind that no matter how good your Internet and Wi-Fi is, streaming games will always be a rougher experience than playing them locally, so don’t expect perfection! Generally, slower-paced games work best, whereas trying to play Halo Infinite’s multiplayer might just leave you frustrated.
And even if you have the best Internet connection in the world, streaming can still be hit or miss. Which brings us to the quality of the streaming itself: Xbox games will use Microsoft’s XCloud system which is typically not classed as being very good, especially compared to Amazon’s own Luna streaming service or Nvidia’s GeForce Now.
6. Updated Firmware and Software
Ensure that both your Amazon Fire TV Stick and Xbox Game Pass app are running on the latest firmware and software versions. This will help prevent compatibility issues and ensure optimal performance.
Remember, the compatibility of Xbox games and the Fire TV Stick may vary, so it’s important to check for the latest updates and compatibility lists for a seamless gaming experience.
