Netherealm has dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 and it confirms three classic characters are returning: Baraka, Tanya and Li Mei.
The new trailer focuses on the Umgadi warriors of which both Li Mei and Tanya are members. Tanya last appeared in Mortal Kombat X, but Li Mei hasn’t been a playable character since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the PlayStation 2. It’s great to see her back in action and kicking ass.
Baraka is obviously a familiar figure at this point, having been something of a punching bag in the recent games. The new trailer, however, gives us a glimpse into how things are different in this new Mortal Kombat 1 universe. Baraka and his people were previously Tarkatans, but now that has been switched so that Baraka and his people are suffering from a deadly disease called Tarkat which is what gives them their massive teeth and disfigured faces. We know that Mileena is suffering from this disease, and that Kitana is helping her keep it hidden.
The trailer also confirmed a few more Kameo fighters. Darrius is a pretty deep cut, first popping up in Mortal Kombat: Deception.
Finally, the contents of the first Kombat Pack were revealed, confirming prior leaks in the process. Homelander, Peacemaker and Omni-man will be stepping into the arena, while Quan-Chi, Ermac and Takeda will all be making their returns to the franchise.
I’ve updated the list of every confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 fighter, Kameo and DLC character.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19th for PC, Xbox Series S/X, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
