MachineGames upcoming Indiana Jones project has been given a proper name and a release date at the Developer Direct event held today.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is going to launch sometime this year and will obviously be coming to Xbox Series S, Series X and PC and will be available on Game Pass from day 1.
At the Developer Direct, we were also treated to our first proper look at what Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is. It is set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Temple of Doom, meaning we get a younger Indy rather than the old, haggard and frankly miserable Indiana Jones seen in the latest movie. Harrison Ford won’t be reprising his role, though. Instead, Troy Baker will be voicing the iconic archaeologist/adventurer. The actual look of Indiana Jones is 100% based on Harrison Ford, however.
Most of the action is going to take place in first-person, which was rather surprising, although the camera is going to shift into third-person for cutscenes and traversal sections.
The trailer gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the game: puzzle-solving, adventuring and action. Indy puts his whip to good use, employing it as a weapon, traversal tool, distraction and everything in between, but he’s just as happy whipping out a pistol or punching someone in the face.
Based on how the developers describe it, the idea seems to be that players will have the freedom to choose how to tackle areas, whether that’s being sneaky, including hitting Nazis with a shovel, or much more aggressive.
